Hochtemperaturwerkstoffe

Die Hochtemperaturwerkstoffgruppe am Lehrstuhl für Allgemeine Werkstoffeigenschaften beschäftigt sich mit der erkenntnisorientierten Grundlagen- sowie anwendungsnahen Forschung im Bereich metallischer und intermetallischer Werkstoffe für Hochtemperaturanwendungen.

Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf der Untersuchung der Korrelation zwischen den mechanischen Eigenschaften wie Härte, Bruchzähigkeit, Kriech-, Ermüdungs- und Warmfestigkeit und der Mikrostruktur und Zusammensetzung der Werkstoffe. Neben der Verwendung zahlreicher mikroskopischer und mechanischer Prüfverfahren am Lehrstuhl werden auch Synchrotron- und Neutronenstrahlquellen zur Charakterisierung verwendet. Ziel der Forschung ist die Entwicklung und Optimierung insbesondere von Nickel- und Kobaltbasis-Superlegierungen, Titanaluminiden und Oxidationsschutzschichten.

Die Hochtemperaturwerkstoffgruppe arbeitet mit Partnern aus der Flugzeug- und Automobilindustrie zusammen und mehrere Projekte sind Teil von DFG-geförderten Programmen.

In-situ Kompositwerkstoffe wie NiAl-(Cr,Mo) oder Nb-Si-Cr sind vielversprechende Materialsysteme für den Einsatz als Strukturwerkstoff bei hohen Temperaturen. Neben einer geringen Dichte weisen die Systeme als eutektische Legierung einen hohen Schmelzpunkt, gute Wärmeleitfähigkeit und verbesserte Oxidationsbeständigkeit auf. Der Einsatz dieser Materialgruppe wird jedoch wegen einer niedrigen Bruchzähigkeit bei Raumtemperatur und einer geringen Kriechbeständigkeit bei hoher Temperatur erschwert. In diesem Projekt werden daher Möglichkeiten untersucht, diese Nachteile zu verbessern.

Superlegierungen zählen zu den Hochtemperaturwerkstoffen und sind ein wichtiger Bestandteil von Flugzeugturbinen sowie stationären Gasturbinen. Dabei ist eine stetige Weiterentwicklung dieser Materialgruppe von großer Bedeutung, um in Zukunft durch geringere Materialkosten, besseren Wirkungsgrad und leichtere Bauweisen, Kosten und Ressourcen zu sparen.

Selective laser melting (SLM) ist eine neue additive Herstellungsweise, um Bauteile von hoher Komplexität in kleinen Stückzahlen herzustellen. Die mechanischen Eigenschaften können dabei das Niveau von geschmiedeten Bauteilen erreichen und teilweise sogar übersteigen. Viele Materialsysteme werden bereits kommerziell angewendet.

Die γ′-gehärteten Kobaltbasis-Superlegierungen sind eine sehr junge Materialklasse (bekannt erst seit 2006), die jedoch grundlegende Eigenschaften mit den bereits seit über 60 Jahren bekannten Nickelbasis-Superlegierungen teilt. Ni-Basis-Superlegierungen werden insbesondere in Flugzeugtriebwerken und stationären Gasturbinen als Turbinenschaufeln oder -scheiben eingesetzt. Dort, wo die Gastemperaturen am höchsten sind, werden sie oft in einkristalliner Form verwendet.

Die Kommission der Europäischen Union (EU) hat sich mit dem Europäischen Green Deal die ehrgeizige Aufgabe gestellt, die Reduzierung der Treibhausgasemissionen mit der nachhaltigen Umstellung der europäischen Industrie auf eine klimaneutrale Wirtschaft miteinander zu verbinden. In diesem Rahmen wurde Wasserstoff als zentral für die Lösung der Probleme und für die Entwicklung der europäischen Energiesysteme hervorgehoben.
